Painting ‘En Plein’ in the Lake District, enables me too see many different weather moods, especially after a rainstorm. A sudden down pour can lead to amazing atmospheric conditions. A cloud inversion lifts to reveal subdued tonal shades of magical Lakeland shapes with mountains dramatically appearing from beneath a cloud of mist. I enjoy capturing these in Watercolour and also Oils. Inspired by Turners Oil studies he painted evocative shapes glowing with lightness and translucency giving wonderful emotional meaning. Using Oils with a lighter touch, fading and softening can be perfect for moody mountain scenery.
